2017 What a year!

We decided after the first couple of weeks of this season that we could not run two teams with the number of players we had returning to us, so we withdrew from the Somerset Cricket League and placed all our playing resources into the 2nd XI who are in the West Somerset Cricket League.

The 2nd XI nearly got promoted, missing out by 10 points, what a shame, a different result from just one game would have made the difference, a least we were at the right end of the Division, not worrying about being relegated, I am sure the players will be striving hard next year to try again.

One of our players this year scored over 1200 runs in all formats of cricket we played in over the year, then we had a further three players hitting over 500 runs each, so a great performance by all our batsmen.

Our Bowlers, were not shy in coming forward either as three of our bowlers managed to get 5 or more wickets, one doing this feat 3 times this year no less, with his best being 6-42, the fielders helped with some dramatic catching efforts, some more dramatic than catches but they all showed great commitment to the cause, with one of our players gaining the most catches in a season, which will be recognised by the WSCL for most catches in Division Two, at their awards night to be held on the 13th October

Our juniors all showed excellence in the field as well as with the bat over their short season and we hope to see some of our elder ones joining the senior teams if not next year soon! Along with our Juniors who range from U11's (some as young as 9) to our U15's we, this year took on the role of  running "All Stars Cricket" a new innovation by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) where numerous U8's joined us for evenings of fun and play, as well as trying to learn some aspects of cricket, all enjoyed themselves and we hope to see them and more back next year.

Nearer to Christmas, we will have our U17's playing (hopefully) in the U17's Indoor Cricket League operated and run by the Somerset Cricket Board in the School of Excellence at the Cooper Associates County Ground, these games normally are played on a Sunday for approx. 6 weeks

This year we continued to receive touring sides in fact this year we greeted two new teams to our list of visitors, so that gave us four touring sides visiting the slopes of the Quantocks, where some new friends were made and we hope to host them again in 2018 All our games as they always are when we have these visitors, were played in a very relaxed and friendly manner with all teams trying their best to win.

2018 we hope will be a year when more spectators might decide to come along and make use of our pavilion for the odd cup of tea or coffee whilst they sit and watch the odd match or two.
